Are you a person driven by details who thrives on keeping payroll accurate, compliant, and on time every pay period?
We’re seeking a detail-oriented part-time (30 hours per week) Payroll Specialist to manage our multi-state, bi-weekly payroll processes and ensure accurate, timely compensation for employees. This role is responsible for maintaining payroll records, verifying employee data, and ensuring compliance with state and local regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of payroll systems, audit procedures, and employee record management.
What will you do?
Get ready to:- Manage accurate and timely payroll processing and ensure compliance with payroll-related regulations.
- Manage garnishments and other payroll deductions.
- Review payroll transactions for completeness and investigate payroll discrepancies.
- Reconcile vacation and leave accruals and ensure that leave hours are accurately coded and recorded.
- Conduct annual workers compensation audit.
- Calculate and handle payments toward the pension accrual account, flex benefits account, and prepaid accounts.
- File and maintain payroll records and reports, including payroll journal entries and month-end closing journal activities.
- Prepare reconciliations between accounting records and payroll records, including Form 941.
- Respond in a timely fashion to payroll inquiries and requests for information.
- File and maintain archives of various payroll files.

The national average compensation for this position is $32–33 an hour (full-time annualized salary as $66,560 to $68,640 per year). WHO SHOULD APPLY?
Applicants with the following experience and skills will be considered candidates for this role.- Ability to work 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with the need to be present between 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. CT.
- A minimum of five years’ multi-state payroll processing experience.
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Intermediate understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Advanced knowledge of payroll legislation.
- Intermediate understanding of tax legislation.
- An advanced knowledge of ADP Workforce Now is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with Sage Intacct is preferred.
